Overall

Overall I think that technology is a great thing but we need to be careful. On this blog we have all talked about some advantages and some disadvantages. It goes to show you it is a great thing but we shouldn't rely on it and we shouldn't allow it to take over. It is also a personal choice on how much you chose to use it and how much you allow it in your life. We all just need to remember that it is not a necessity, our grandparent lived without a lot of technology and so can we if we chose to.:)

This cartoon just shows how technology is so involved in peoples lives. Now with cellphones and emails there is very little face to face communication between people. Even families now are communicating with eachother through technology because its easier than talking face to face. This can create problem with relationships because u cant really have a relationship that is based all off of virtual communication. Technology is even playing a big parts in the younger generation of kids were they are getting cellphones at young ages and video games. This cartoon just kinda shows how the family is sitting down to have dinner but now at the time when most people sit down and talk about their day and what s going on in their lives they are still emailing and talking on the phone and not face to face talking with eachother. Virtual communication has become the social norm these days.

Privacy

Although there are a lot of advantages there is disadvantages to technology as well .Like, how people have no privacy. Now with google maps people can see your house anytime they want. With blackberries companies give there employees them which seems great, but really that way they can reach you whenever they want. It is like you never can fully be alone with e-mail, cellphones, text, facebook, ext. I personally think it is getting a bit out of control. People updating their twitter ever 10 minutes , I mean really do we need to know what you are doing every moment of your day?? Lots of these thing were first made for people to connect with people they didn't see all the time which is great but that is not where it stop. People are so attached to their cellphones now, sometime I feel like maybe if I text them at least they would pay attention. It's like people don't even know how to interact with others face to face anymore.

I have to agree with kelsey post "The future" there are a lot of advantage to technology, but they are slowly diminishing. People rely so much on technology today, like in the old days our grandparent could do any type of math just using their heads and a piece of paper. Now kids hardly know what 6 X 7 is without using a calculator. We rely so much on technology today that I feel if we had everything taken away from us the younger generation would know how to survive. As well todays younger generations grammar has become so poor, because they are use to short forming everything. Which is more important convince or knowing how to live without technology?????
I feel there are a lot of advantages to technology. People now with different jobs have to travel all over the world to work. With email now connected to our blackberries we can connect with anyone, anywhere when we have a quick moment. Also with web cameras people are able to see there mom or dad who are in the army, that other wise would have no contact with if it wasn't for technology. My dad live half way around the world in thailand if it wasn't for technology I would have no contact with him. Technology is literally contact people all over the world.

The Future

It is quite evident that technology today has many advantages within our schooling and working lives. More information is viewable and accessible at any given time. I do, however, believe that the advantages may slowly diminish while technology advances in the future. It is unreal in today's world how much it consumes peoples lives, and I believe we are only going to get more caught up with it in the future. Like in many futuristic movies released lately, I believe it will not be long until we find ourselves caught up with it and depending on technology to create, and eventually operate our world. Even now, we find ourselves leaning more towards technology on assembly lines and in many manufacturing situations to take the physical "work load" off of humans. But this also leads to less need and desire for physical labour, thus resulting in less job opportunities and advances for people.

Fraudulent Activities Online

Fraud online is becoming more and more popular as technology becomes more and more prevalent. The two basically go hand in hand. As we become more dependent on technology, for things like checking our bank account balances or even purchasing goods from the boutique from the States the risk in fraud is very high. It could be something as simple as someone stealing your credit card number and making purchases with it, and the worst case scenario being Identity theft. Identity theft is something that would cause a great deal of headaches to say the least. As we become so hooked on technology it just offers more opportunity to thieves that want to do nothing but harm people like you and me. We need to be very cautious when it comes to making "Secure" transactions online.

Cheetah Woods

We all know what has happened with Tiger Woods and his wife...oh and the other half of the female population in the world he has slept with. Without technology would this news story even have been newsworthy. Its a question I ask myself every day. Had Elin (Tiger's *cough cough* wife) not been able to see the "dirty" texts he had been sending to these other ladies, or even able to go through his phone and see all of the random phone numbers she would have had zero suspicion of his numerous, and I mean numerous "transgressions". I really like Tiger, as a golfer and a person. But lets face it, he really screwed up, really really bad and he has no one to blame but himself. However, when you hear that over 80% of athletes/celebrities are untrue to their spouses, it just goes to show you that the only difference between Tiger and the rest of these famous people is that he got caught. This just goes to show you that technology can be a very good thing, but at the same time can create some very messy problems for people of all backgrounds. Face-to-Face No More

This illustration really magnifies the new generation, or our generation's inability to communicate with people face-to-face anymore. Whether its a boss or someone above you in the company you are working for, whats easier? Call in sick and actually talk to the boss, or take the high road and send an e-mail or a text saying that you are unable to come into work. We have all been there, maybe it's as simple as feeling the "affects" of those 13 pints of green beer you had for St. Patty's day last night, maybe your legitimately sick. Either way, it's easier to get away with things when you know you don't have to have the face-to-face confrontation with your higher ups. Personally I think there are more advantages to technology, but everyone has there own opinion. But here are some things that I feel are advantages of it. You can do work more efficiently, it is more organized an example is if you write a essay on paper you can lose it very easily but if you type it up it can be saved on your computer or a USB stick. The last advantage i can think of is downloading, you can get any song or music video for free instead of buying it,yes this is illegal but come on everyone does it. There are disadvantage as well to this, jobs that were done by hand will be all gone, use up a lot of energy, can make you lazy, such as video games and Internet access could have possible bad effects on areas such as your health, people are getting fatter and fatter. You would have less conversations face to face because of e-mail or the phone, or text messages, msn, facebook.

Overwhelming Technology

This cartoon comes from http://www.glasbergen.com/ and clearly shows the overwhelming conflict between people and technology. It also appears as though this cartoon targets the specific age group of where most technological confusions and frustrations arise. It is believed the Baby Boomer age has only been recently introduced into all that technology can offer and therefore it has not been around for this age to grow accustomed to. Of course, there is always the exception of specific people within this age group that are far more advanced with technology than speculated.
A big disadvantage with technology today is that it is creating unemployment. Jobs that used to be only done by humans are now being done by machines and other types of technologies. This is leading to companies laying off people and downsizing the amount of employees needed in the company. The use of technology increases the amount of production and lowers the costs for the companies. This creates an issue because even though the companies are producing more goods and services the amount of goods being demanded is decreasing because people are becoming unemployed. These people that are unemployed are not buying has many goods anymore because they have no money and this is taking a durastic toll on the economy. The loss of jobs and decrease in demand has affected companies all over the world and a majority is caused by the dependancey of technology. This brings up the question of does technology really benefit the world today or is it causing more harm than good?

Good start!

Hi guys. This is fine so far, but I'd like to make a couple of suggestions.
1) One of the posts by CCk89 FF(I think that's the name) is too short to count as a post. Remember the minimum length.
2) The font size seems a bit too small. Maybe enlarge it just a bit?
3) Be sure to use your full names or identify yourselves somewhere, or else I won't be able to give you credit for your blog!

Disagree!

In reference to 'cck89' blog posted yesterday, there are some points that I disagree with. I believe that the amount of technology used and absorbed differs between the purpose of use. It is stated that it is every one's personal choice to what extent they let technology into their lives. When in reference to personal use, I would agree but when it comes to business ventures, I strongly disagree. If you own a personal phone or computer then the amount of use is your choice. The amount of calls you make or the amount of information you search on the Internet is every one's individual choice. However, in the work force, it is not an option on the amount of time you spend using technology--it is your job. If your boss sends you on a work trip and is expecting you to update him or her daily on the events and progress using email through your blackberry, it is no longer a choice. Any person can limit personal technological use, but in the business world nowadays it is no longer an option. I can not think of any existing business that does not have at least 3 forms of technology implemented within. Are you able to?

The business world now fully relies on technology to run.

There are many advantages that technology has brought to the corporate world. Technology has now made it easy and possible to communicate with people and businesses all around the world at anytime, which has opened a much broader range of consumers for different businesses. Technology has not only helped businesses it is a business in itself.People rely on cell phones, computers, etc to not only run businesses but also in there personal lives. Now almost everyone has a cell phone or computer used to keep in touch with people but technology is almost to involved in peoples lives.

There is starting to become less and less face to face confrontation because people are so used to communicating via email, text messaging ,etc. This posses has a disadvantage because when something goes wrong with the source of technology people are lost with out. People have basically become addicted to technology.
I think that the advantages of technology outweigh the disadvantages. These days its peoples choice to what extent they want technology to run their lives. People like to blame technology for many things like how much kids use phones to text these days, well I think the parents are to blame for lots of it. maybe not a older age kid but for youngerones. The parents shouldnt complain, because they are the ones that bought the phones for the kids that really dont need them.
